Could your computer, phone and television be killing your brain? New study out of Oregon State University says YES! Blue light from these devices not only affect the retinas in your eyes, they can affect your ability to live a long life. This light can affect sleep and circadian rhythm, even if people don’t realize it. In the study which was done of fruit flies, they found an interesting phenomenon. Even the fruit flies with no eyes, chose to avoid blue light exposure when given the opportunity to do so.

What can we do about it?

  • Set time that is screen free. For example only allow screens from 8am-4pm and take lengthy breaks
  • Purchase amber glasses that filter out blue light
  • Look for products like laptops that have blue light filters built in
