“Pressing Health” Health news that’s fresh off the press

Parkinson’s is on the rise of pandemic proportions.  Globally, between 1990-2015, the number of Parkinson’s cases has doubled to more than 6 million.  A recent study published in Nature shows more mounting evidence that Parkinson’s may be a gut/brain issue.  About 10% of Parkinson’s cases are due to mutations in genes that code for the proteins PINK1 and Parkin, which play a role in clearing out damaged mitochondria.  Interestingly enough those who carry these mutations are more likely to develop Parkinson’s before 50 years of age.  All the latest research show that Parkinson’s risk is an interplay between the immune system, genetics, mitochondria, and the brain.
